Peaches Honored by Harvard, and Other News

PeachesIf you’re like me, you didn’t realize that Peaches was funny enough to be inducted by Harvard’s Comedy Publication as an honorary member. We haven’t seen a whole lot of  the chanteuse these days, but she’ll be sworn in, figuratively speaking, this Monday on the campus, before she embarks on tours of Europe and Australia. Rolling Stone magazine is opening a restaurant chain, the first location to be in Hollywood. Publisher Jann Wenner said he’s been wanting to expand the brand for some time now.  (Guardian)

J Mascis has formed yet another band, this one named Sweet Apple. While Mascis is primiarly the drummer in this new outfit, is also said to be singing and handling some guitar duties as well. (Pitchfork)

Eddie Argos of Art Brut fame announces details of his side project, Everybody Was In The French Resistance…Now, London tour details. (NME)

Liam Clancy, the Irish folk singer who Bob Dylan once called “the best ballad singer I’ve ever heard” just died in County Cork, Ireland at the age of 74. (NPR)

Raunchy Faces Back on Tour

LONDON – “We’re playing as one now like our life depended on it,” Rod Stewart announced, looking down eagerly at his game pie in a posh London restaurant. “This American tour is a turning point for the Faces. If we can get that same rapport going with our audience that we had four years ago, then I’ll say we’ve accomplished something. Then I’ll say we’ve become one of those bands that’s respected. And,” he paused, cutting into the thick, rich feast, “there’s not many of those.”

The Faces are heading stateside for their first tour since the fall of 1973, a trip that resulted in the uninspired Coast to Coast album. Between visits, Stewart released Smiler, guitarist Ron Wood did a solo album, and drummer Kenny Jones recorded a Jackson Browne tune for a British single.

Jon Landau: It’s Too Late to Stop Now

I feel uneasy, confronting Landau. If a rock critic is a parasite, what is the critic of a rock critic? Landau is a rock critic pure and simple. He subtitles his book A Rock And Roll Journal, but it’s essentially a collection of past reviews, mostly of records, mostly from Rolling Stone and The Phoenix.
