The Latest on Possible New Kinks Album

by:

Ray DaviesThe Rock Radio has reported what many rock enthusiasts have been hoping to hear more about for years: An album containing new Kinks material could just be in the works, which would make it their first in 16 years. 16 years! While we reported a few weeks ago on Ray’s collaborations with Bruce Springsteen and the Killers as well as Ray’s interest in working with Dave again, Ray further qualifies his reunion hopes: He intends to try to get brother Dave on board to lend vocals and guitar to the work he’s been recording with Kinks drummer Mick Avory. Says Ray:

“There’s lots of outtakes in the archives (with) the whole band on, for some reasons I hadn’t put vocals down, or the album was finished and we didn’t use them. And we found some really good stuff in the archive, and I actually went in the studio with Mick and a couple of the guys without Dave just to see what it was like in the studio together, and we’re going to look at this possibility later this year. I’d only put it together if it was a good album and it warranted a release. But we found some great material already recorded. It spans late ’70s through to the early ’90s — as well as the newer songs that we’re sort of thinking of recording.”

Dave, who suffered a stroke in 2004, would be a crucial missing link, so here’s to hoping a reunion comes to fruition.
