MTV Drops the “Music Television” from Its Logo

[via LA Times] After 29 years of being known as “MTV: Music Television”, MTV has dropped the “music television” part of their logo. It’s a minor change, sure, but I guess somewhat significant. Obviously, it’s a much different channel these days… man, I tried watching Jersey Shore recently, and I just can’t do it.
From the LA Times article:
Does the newly cropped logo mean no music at all? “Absolutely not,” [Tina] Exarhos (head of marketing) said, pointing to the success of the VMAs and the recent Haiti telethon organized by George Clooney and the network. Some editions of the logo, in fact, feature Beyonce at the VMAs and Jay-Z on the telethon, while others promote new shows like “My Life as Liz” and upcoming ones including “The Hard Times of RJ Berger.”
Don’t worry, I had to look up RJ Berger too, just to make sure it wasn’t some new musical talent everyone knows of but me. Turns out, it’s just a TV show about an unpopular teen who gets notoriety for having a big wang. Awesome. Screw music! Bring on the raunchy coming-of-age programming!

Well, good thing they removed the caption, it’s been misleading for 29 years now.
