“Wake Up”, the rousing, anthemic number on Arcade Fire’s breakout album Funeral, is now, over five years after its initial release, being implemented into a licensing opportunity for an incredibly worthy, high-profile cause. The band has Haitian affiliations (co-founder Regine Chassagne emigrated from Haiti to Canada during the Jean-Claude Duvalier reign), and they’ve been among the top bands leading the charge to offer aid and assistance to the stricken country in any way they can. The news comes today that they’ve taken another step forward in the fight, by licensing “Wake Up” to the Super Bowl, with all proceeds going to the Partners in Health’s Stand with Haiti organization.

“Wake Up” is a fitting soundtrack for the current efforts happening worldwide to assist and stabilize Haiti. Licensing during the Super Bowl obviously fetches big bucks, and it’s a great way for the band to take action.

Interesting side note: In 2008, the Arcade Fire took the NFL to task for including their song “No Cars Go” in a Super Bowl montage without their permission.

“With my lightnin’ bolts a glowin’
I can see where I am goin’ to be
When the reaper he reaches and touches my hand.”
