I took an assignment from Rolling Stone to cover the opening night of Scott Weiland’s solo tour a the beginning of 2009, which was shortly after he left Velvet Revolver. I remember Weiland showing up 10 minutes after he was schedule to go on stage, so the tour manager gave me about 90 seconds with him. Even among the chaos of being late for opening night he came across as a very nice fellow, albeit edgy. I also enjoyed meeting his guitarist Doug Gruene, from the Crystal Method productions.
