Afternoon Mood Elevator: Caribou, “Melody Day”
by: Jocelyn Hoppa
Caribou, the moniker of Canadian psychedelic/electronic musician Daniel Victor Snaith, has slowly crept into my listening repertoire and now basically refuses to leave. Which is fine by me, because a slow-grower is always better than a, er, show-er. At this point, he’s created one of my favorite musical projects in the last few years… I always look forward to what’s coming next from Caribou. Anyway, “Melody Day”, the first track off of 2007’s Andorra, is basically about a love lost, but no matter, it’s also about moving on. And moving on is good, yeah? With their shimmery experimental pop delivery full of spinning instrumentation and twittering flute and clashing cymbals, it sounds like a lullaby and a shot of post-lunch espresso all at once. Great video to go along with it, too.
After the jump, check out Four Tet’s remix of “Melody Day”, which is an interesting take on an already rather perfect song.
