Velvet Underground On Stage Sorta, and Other News
Well, well… interesting news for Velvet Underground fans (uh, all of us). Lou Reed, Maureen Tucker, and Greg Yule will share a stage on December 8th at the New York Public Library to talk about the VU’s legacy as part of the “Live from the NYPL” series. The appearance will be sans original members John Cale (and Sterling Morrison and Nico, both of whom are deceased), and is totally affordable (general admission is $25). If we were in NYC, you can bet Crawdaddy! would be there representing, so I urge those of you who can make it to do so and let us know how it went. (Billboard)
Everybody’s favorite (except for, perhaps, with that last record) freakout musician Anton Newcombe is back… again! Yes, the perpetually awesome (depending on your definition of the word) Brian Jonestown Massacre is set to release a new record on New Year’s Day. Can’t Wait. (Chart Attack)

Fan of the Deftones? Well, if you live in LA, give some money to see one or both benefit shows they are playing at the Avalon this week to provide financial aid towards the medical bills of the band’s bassist, who has been semi-unconscious for the past year after a serious car accident. Learn more about the medical needs of the music community in this Smoke-Filled Room column. (CMJ)
