Florence Welsh and her backing band delighted and mesmerized a sold-out crowd at Bowery in her first official NY headlining show. I’ve been to quite a few shows this year, and this one was undoubtedly one of the best. Florence has a powerhouse, too-good-to-possibly-be-real-except-it-is voice, and she works the stage like a force of nature, whipping her hair around, throwing her hands into the air, and beating on a drum in a total ecstatic frenzy. I doubt we’ll get another chance to see her play somewhere this small and intimate in the area again, although after catching her once, I don’t care where she’s playing next time she comes around, I’ll be there.
