Of Glory Holes and Gaga: How Your Day Can Get Better
by: Jocelyn Hoppa
You know how your day can get better? By watching either one or both of these videos, which surfaced today and have lots of folks talkin’.
It’s like you know what you’re going to get, but you really don’t. Lady Gaga officially released her video today of “Bad Romance” and it’s so great so don’t deny yourself just because she’s a global sensation or you aren’t into weird for the sake of weird. Like many other music snobs before me, I wrote Gaga off at first. But I’m woman enough to admit that I was wrong. DEAD WRONG. Her music isn’t exactly breaking any new ground, pretty much Kylie Minogue with a bit more edge, but the theatrics, the dancing, the fashion, the sheer audacity… Completely. Worthy.
Also, via a Stereogum exclusive, there’s a new video from Digital Leather for the song “Hurts So Bad.” I actually knew next to nothing about Digital Leather going into this, so suffice it to say that this entirely crass but equally hilarious video, which features a glory hole/love triangle with a bathroom stall, was a real genius career move. Perhaps they’re just fans of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia? Never a bad thing. But even if this kind of humor doesn’t really do it for ya, you should know that the music totally stands up on its own.
And now let us hope that I never have to Google the term “glory hole” ever again.
