Wolfgang’s Vault Announces Cracking the Vault Day

by:

The RamonesWhat has, up until this point, been known as a site that primarily streams free live music, everything from legendary Grateful Dead concerts to Daytrotter recording sessions of up-and-coming bands, today Wolfgang’s Vault announces that many of their esteemed concerts are now available for download.

In fact, Cracking the Vault Day is the largest-ever simultaneous release of live concerts for download, which includes legendary artists such as Quicksilver Messenger Service, Miles Davis, Iggy Pop, the Kinks, Lou Reed, MC5, and Waylon Jennings, to name but a few of bands with vintage live shows being offered. The goal of this, ultimately, is to offer download capability for almost all the bands that are streamed on the site. And the most exciting news for fans of live music is that Wolfgang’s Vault has amassed 10,000 live shows, and around 3,200 are currently up there now. That basically equals a fuck load of great music!

While Wolfgang’s Vault has experienced some controversy in the past, this new, vast wave of downloads comes after the digital music company negotiated deals with musicians and record labels,  which both acknowledge the company’s ownership of the music and also the right to celebrate it. That also means that they pay for every stream and download, contractually as well as from a broad licensing standpoint, like ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC.

Check out the entire list of concerts available for download at Wolfgang’s Vault.

Also be sure to check out their award-winning iPhone app, which allows you to take all of these great shows on the go.
