Say No! To Architecture by Andres Jauregui

Death By Audio, Brooklyn, NY
By Andres Jauregui
Allen Roizman’s one-man-band blew me away at the otherwise sleepy inaugural Northside Festival this past June. Death By Audio is a hub for under-the-radar talent in Brooklyn, and Allen is just one of the many acts that I’ve had the pleasure of catching there for the first time. He begins his songs by tapping out a snare drum beat into a loop pedal, adds ornament with an egg-shaped shaker, then layers keyboards and guitar until a deafening but melodic swell overpowers the room. And then it stops, and he does it again. And again. This photo owes a lot to Allen’s stooped posture, and to the clip light that bathes the scene in a warm glow not totally incongruous with the beautiful noise that he crafts.
