The Sex Pistols Hate Ice Cream
by: Jocelyn Hoppa
While it’s clear that the ice cream company really loves ice cream in a way that Ben and Jerry never have, it’s not so apparent they care at all for the Sex Pistols or their anarchy. Founder Matt O’Connor’s only reported retort was this: “We’re a bit dumbfounded that a group that made its reputation for being banned is trying to ban one of our ice creams.”
I mean, in one way, he does have a point. But without the band’s permission, the whole thing just reeks of commercialism and devalues statements the band lived and breathed by. Also, has O’Connor ever seen any interviews with Johnny Rotten? That guy doesn’t like ice cream.
