Rock Art Rock: Issue 2.46a

By March of 2008, Nick Thorburn had put both the Unicorns and his “Nick Diamonds” moniker behind him, but his SXSW showcase performance that year made it clear that his penchant for onstage theatrics had not diminished in the slightest. Nick emerged from backstage in white face-paint and proceeded to faux-choke longtime collaborator and rapper Subtitle with a drumstick. I love how this lucky shot (taken from far back in the crowd) makes him appear to emerge out of darkness, appropriate for an artist so obsessed with his own mortality.
