Rock Art Rock

White Zombie, The Ramones
November 22, 1995, Cleveland State University
Artwork by Derek Hess

Joey Ramone and White Zombie’s Rob Zombie look to be a peculiarly appropriate pair in Derek Hess’ poster for this Cleveland gig on their co-headlining 1995 tour. Four months earlier, the Ramones had released their final album, ¡Adios Amigos!, and White Zombie was touring behind their hit record, Astro-Creep: 2000. The two caricatured frontmen wear glum expressions, sunglasses, lots of green, and considerable heads of hair. Their contemplative visages seem to foreshadow the split of both groups the following year: The Ramones would play their final show in August 1996, and White Zombie was laid to rest following the release of a remix collection, Supersexy Swingin’ Sounds.
