Rock Art Rock: Issue 2.02

The Dwarves, August 23, 1997
Bottom of the Hill

Artwork and commentary by Alan Forbes

“This was a very bad mood [laughs]. Yeah, very very bad mood. That’s the epitome of San Francisco catching up with me…. It was a little bit of everything. I think it was a break-up around then or something and things just weren’t going the way I wanted them to, so the Dwarves poster was actually perfect. Except for one thing. Zeke on there, ‘cause I was so distracted with other things goin’ on, Zeke is spelled wrong. And when I gave it to them, they didn’t even care. They were just like, ‘oh, ok.’ But on that image there’s a hand, I think it’s the hand holding the face, it’s got the recurring theme from most of my posters back then. I have a little bat tattooed on my hand that I did when I was 14 years old, and I think it showed up in that.

“I always loved seeing the Dwarves. They were such a great, great punk rock band. I used to love that band, and Zeke, so it was like a fantastic bill for me. Bottom of the Hill was pretty much free reign for me. So it was cool.”
