Them, New Tweedy Brothers
June 23, 1966, Fillmore Auditorium

Artwork by Wes Wilson

Van Morrison’s Them made their first Bay Area appearance all the way from Belfast at this June 1966 concert, while openers the New Tweedy Brothers had the Haight-Ashbury spirit but never broke out of the San Francisco sound. Poster artist Wes Wilson was a pioneering figure in the psychedelic art scene and was one of the first artists to work with Bill Graham. His bright, undulating style is present in this vivid pink and green design, and it certainly would have popped out of any telephone pole or storefront window on which it was taped to promote this concert.
