Jimi Hendrix Experience, 1968 US Tour
Artwork by David Byrd
This vibrant poster was created for the Jimi Hendrix Experience’s 1968 tour of the US by David Byrd, Bill Graham’s exclusive poster artist for the Fillmore East. Touring on the momentum from their ascending success in Europe, the trio quickly became known across the States for their incendiary live shows and Hendrix’s sexual charisma. This poster exemplifies the Experience’s fondness for psychedelic fashion and the hippie movement, and was used specifically to promote shows at a number of US venues. A year later, the Experience, comprised of Hendrix, Noel Redding, and Mitch Mitchell, broke up.
