Rock Art Rock: Issue 1.38

Jeff Beck, 1968, San Francisco
Photography and commentary by Baron Wolman

“Jeff loved Hotrods. While in San Francisco with the Jeff Beck Group he went shopping for car parts that he couldn’t find in London (you can see a box of parts in this picture taken in his hotel room). He also actually bought a souped–up car right off the showroom floor and had it shipped home to the UK!”

“He also brought a 45 rpm record player on tour with him (remember [seeing] the ones with the big holes in the records?). He would put music on the record player and play accompaniment. This was (obviously) before the days of tape cassettes and boom boxes, well before the days of iPods. This tour is memorable because he was playing with the ‘Jeff Beck Group,’ as he called it. The band included Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, Nicky Hopkins, and Micky Waller. From this tour came the highly acclaimed 1968 album called Truth.”
