Rock Art Rock: Issue 1.35
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, September 4, 2003, Fillmore Auditorium
Artwork by Joel Elrod
Joel Elrod has one of the most distinctive styles among poster artists on the music scene today. Through his use of dynamic color palettes, detailed line sketches, and emotive themes and contrasts, Elrod has forged his way through the diluted world of concert art and emerged as one of the most sought after and highly regarded artists. This poster, created for the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (with an opening set by the Warlocks), caught the band two days after their sophomore release, Take Them On, On Your Own, and incorporates Elrod’s signature rich color use and provocative imagery.
