Rock Art Rock: Issue 1.25
The Misfits, The Palace, October 31, 1997
Artwork and commentary by Alan Forbes
“This Misfits poster is when I was going through a phase where I just really loved shrunken heads, and I was getting a lot of the horror stuff out of my system. It was all during a certain period of time where there were a good couple of years where everything was just frustrating, so I guess it came out in a lot of the posters, artwork being the great outlet that it is. You just can’t beat the Misfits on Halloween. You just can’t say no. It was the one where I was like, oh, okay, this is perfect. I think I did two Misfits posters before and this was the final one I did. ‘Cause they were just coming back around then with a different singer, and I had never seen ‘em, and you know, it was the Misfits, so how you gonna really argue? Anything’s better than nothing. Everything’s all used with a brush. Every poster’s hand cut, all the steps, everything’s hand cut and then printed, so none of that color’s done on a computer. It’s all overlaid and overlaid, constantly trying to manipulate color. That was my big thing: learning all about what you can do with color. And this one had the big red background with the flames.”
