Rock Art Rock: Issue 1.23

Joan Baez, Mimi Farina, Pauline Marden, 1968
Photography by Jim Marshall

Legendary rock photographer Jim Marshall and Joan Baez had been close friends for years when this photograph was taken at the house she shared with her sisters, Mimi Farina and Pauline Marden. The three Baez sisters, captured here in 1972, found varying degrees of musical celebrity through their folk-singing talents. This picture became a famous anti-war poster that said “Girls go out with guys that say no.”
