The Cramps at the Glasshouse

The Cramps, Glasshouse, October 1996
Artwork and commentary by Alan Forbes

“This one I literally drew on the back of a different poster ‘cause I was so broke and I always wanted to do the Cramps…I barely remember drawing it. It was one of those, you know? It was over ten years ago too. Yeah, I do remember it was one of my brokest times, and I was spending time with the line work and all that, just like learning more stuff. It was a good test piece because it was one of my first posters…So I was still learning about color and everything. In regards to the woman with the whip, everything’s derivative, I guess, of the influences around, movies or if you like old ‘60s and ‘70s trash posters of horror movies, which is what I’m a huge fan of—more so then—than I am now. You know, getting all that stuff that you wanna draw as a kid out of your system. I think that’s more of what that was. That purple used to be one of the colors that I had to lighten up on, that purple and green, ‘cause those were all the ones I associated with ‘60s toys, horror toys, like model kits and stuff like that. So I think if anything, this was influenced by that too. It’s the whole color scheme in everything.”
