The Perceptionists Found

The Perceptionists

In an industry currently ruled by cameos and guest spots, hip-hop clearly needs more super groups. Look no further, the new collaboration featuring Definitive Jux’s finest, formidable hip-hop intellects – DJ Fakts One, Akrobatik and Mr. Lif – is about to claim official super group status (each having very successful indie careers) with their first full-length release ‘Black Dialogue.’

Unlike a lot of commercial hip-hop’s infatuation with booty, bling, or beefs with other crews, the Perceptionists project is socially and culturally aware, covering everything from the Bush administration to the exploitation of black culture, along with smoking, fear, women, war, weapons of mass destruction, and uniting people. Lyrically positive throughout, this record continues the tradition of these Boston-born rappers, who’ve clearly been influenced by the regional bleed of NYC’s classic sound of jumpup and break beat.

In ‘Black Dialogue’ you will find politically straight-forward commentary, but the emphasis on serious, outspoken lyrics in no way deflates the party. And, no matter who you’re talking to, the party is always a huge part of hip-hop. For all the inquisitive, stream of conscious rhyming (…I vote the People for Prez, fuck that rich little dummy/And the shit that he says, its just puppetry, fuckery/Haven’t you heard, the shit is absurd/Don’t trust a motherfuckin’ word…), it’s the beats that keep this record going. And, don’t forget guest spots from legendaries Guru and Humpty Hump. Plenty here for all, and plenty that can’t be stopped.
